The Collections of the Picture Gallery contain works dating from periods between the fourteenth and twenty-first century. Among the most significant works exhibited are those by Nicolò Rondinelli, Giorgio Vasari, Guercino, Bertel Thorvaldsen and Domenico Baccarini. The Contemporary art is well-represented with works by excellent artists such as Schifano, Festa, Boetti and Castellani as well as the irreverent Cattelan, the street artist
Banksy and Edoardo Tresoldi with a giant istallation. The Tomb effigy of Guidarello Guidarelli features as an important element in the city’s heritage; the sculpture by Tullio Lombardo became legendary thanks to a poem by Gabriele D’Annunzio.
